About the Conference

About the Conference

The genesis for this conference came out of a personal desire to become more effective instructors of historical writing, as well as a desire to put tri-state area faculty and graduate students in conversation and collaboration with each other to workshop their writing assignments and generate new ideas.

We see at least three objectives we hope this conference could accomplish: 1) To provide New York City metro area history faculty and graduate students with an opportunity to hear from–and share with peers–writing pedagogy. 2) To gather and share strategies about how to effectively assign writing in history courses. And 3) to provide an opportunity for local history faculty and CUNY grad students to think about their own teaching and leave having concretely worked to improve a particular assignment.
